FEEDING DIRECTIONS:
Parrots and Conures require a high quality diet composed of superior ingredients.
A parrot cannot survive a period of 24 hours without food and should not be without
food for periods of more than 3 hours. Offer only as much Buckeye Parrot Food as
the bird will consume during a normal feeding period. Seeds should be changed daily
to remove seed hulls and rejected seeds. Hulls and rejected seeds will account for
approximately 30 to 40% of the mix. The feeder should be of a shape and in a location
so as not to be contaminated by bird droppings and become a source of disease to
the birds. A minimum of 50% of the pellets in the mix should be consumed because
most of the supplemental vitamins and minerals are contained in the pellets. The
colored seeds are also coated with additional vitamins, and sunflower hearts are
an excellent an source of vitamin E. Supplementation of additional vitamins and minerals
may be harmful, and is not recommended. Always maintain a source of clean, fresh
water. A drip type waterer is preferred so as not to spread bacteria through the
watering system. This is particularly true where a number of birds drink from the
same waterer. Grit may be made available to the bird although this is not a requirement
for birds which hull their seeds. Store the unused portion of Buckeye Parrot Food
in a clean, well ventilated area where it cannot be contaminated by rodents, insects,
or possibly disease carrying birds. When changing to Buckeye Parrot Food from another
food, mix the new mix with the previous diet until the birds have become totally
accustomed to the new diet.
To maintain freshness store in a cool dry environment. For extended storage keep refrigerated.
