FEEDING DIRECTIONS:
Cockatiels require only a small amount of food. However, food must be available at
all times, since a cockatiel cannot survive a period of 24 hours without food. Offer
slightly more Buckeye Cockatiel Mix than the bird will consume during a normal feeding
period. Seeds should be changed daily to remove seed hulls and rejected seed. Hulls
and rejected seeds will account for approximately 25% of the mix. The feeder should
be of a shape and in a location so as not to be contaminated by bird droppings and
become a source of disease to the birds. A minimum of 50% of the pellets should be
consumed since much of the supplemental vitamins and minerals are contained in the
pellets. The colored seeds are also coated with additional vitamins, and sunflower
hearts are an excellent source of vitamin E. Supplementation of additional vitamins
and minerals may be harmful, and is not recommended. Always maintain a source of
clean, fresh water. A drip type waterer is preferred so as not to spread bacteria
through the watering system. This is particularly true where a number of birds drink
from the same waterer. Offer the bird a cuttle bone as a source of minerals such
as calcium and phosphorus. Grit may be made available to the bird although this is
not a requirement in birds which hull their seeds. Store the unused portion of Buckeye
Cockatiel Food in a clean, well ventilated area where it cannot be contaminated by
rodents, insects, or possibly disease-
To maintain freshness store in a cool dry environment. For extended storage keep refrigerated.
