FEEDING DIRECTIONS:
Place seed in a bird feeder, preferably close to some trees or natural cover. When the birds become accustomed to the feeder as a source of food, maintain bird feed in the feeder at all times. A small finch, with its high energy requirement, cannot survive a period of 24 hours without food. Keep your bird feeder clean to prevent the spread of disease. Continue to feed the birds throughout the year, particularly in the spring when newly hatched birds are beginning to feed. Early in the spring many of the naturally occurring seeds have not ripened or matured and finches appreciate a constant source of seed. Insects constitute a major portion of the finch's diet during the spring.
